Steel for construction

Steel is used in functional and aesthetic construction projects. One example of such an elegant structure is the Millau Viaduct inFrance.

It is the world's largest cable-stayed bridge and its steel frame alone weighs 36,000 tonnes.

Nowadays, buildings must be designed in such a way that they can be easily expanded and adapted to meet new requirements. Also, they must be bright, safe and easy to renovate. Additionally, buildings must be designed to meet increasingly stringent environmental standards. And because steel is particularly tensile and compression resistant, it is the ideal material for creating considerable spans and vast spaces. One example of this characteristic is the Leuven train station, in which a total of 4,000 tons of steel was used.
