Patina is an oxidation layer on metal objects. It creates a gray-green outer layer on copper and bronze objects, and has a deep-oudbruine tint. The formation of a beautiful natural patina can take years.
Patina layers can also be artificially made, this process is called patination. Patina chemicals can be placed both in cold and warm way. The 'hot' method works by means of heating the object with a gas flame.
Cold patina is formed at the room temperature. The patinating agent is applied with a brush or cloth on the image and react with the bronze. Different chemicals create different colors.
In order to put gloss on the patina and protect the object the sculpture is finished with a layer of wax.
